Clock and timer characters label schedules, durations, deadlines and time-sensitive updates.
Marks for documents that need to be exact: legal, medical and measurement. Stored on this page are 58 entries, split 55 single characters to 3 sequences.
You will meet Watch, Two O’Clock, Seven O’Clock, Hourglass Not Done among these. Measured over the full set, the leading name patterns are Variation Selector-16 (3), Stopwatch (2), Timer Clock (2). Single-character values span U+21B6 to U+1F570.

Single-character entries cover U+21B6 to U+1F570, breaking down by general category as symbol 55.
Variation Selector-16 (3), Stopwatch (2), Timer Clock (2) lead the name frequencies — measured, not assumed.
Sequence count is 3. Joiners appear in 0, variation selectors in 3, and the deepest entry stacks 2 code points.
The easy mix-up is Clockwise Integral versus Clockwise Vertical Arrows. They are different characters: U+2231 and U+1F503. Try emoji or pictograph first — 35 to pick from.
Leave emoji sequence unless nothing else fits. Colour or no colour is the first choice: 38 emoji, 20 plain. Always check it in the place it will appear.
The grouping here follows practical use, not Unicode's formal categories.
Rendered in colour by Apple, Google or Microsoft. 60% here.
Standalone marks that follow your font. 34% here.
Built from parts that must travel together. 5% here.

Pick from 58 time symbols on this page. Most of them, 35 in all, are emoji or pictograph. Their home in Unicode is the Miscellaneous Symbols and Pictographs block. 38 of them are emoji and come out in colour. The other 20 take the colour of the text near them.
They split into emoji or pictograph, symbol and emoji sequence. Emoji or pictograph leads with 35.
They come from Miscellaneous Symbols and Pictographs (30), Supplemental Arrows-B (10) and Miscellaneous Technical (8). The range is U+21B6 to U+1F570. That spread is why fonts disagree.
Clockwise Integral is not Clockwise Vertical Arrows. Read the name, not the shape.
Half-copying breaks 3 of these. Take the whole value.
The vocabulary below comes from the formal names and groupings of these time symbols.
| Type | Examples | Good for | Watch for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Emoji or pictograph | ⌚ ⏰ ⏱ | Technical reports and measurements | Picking Watch when you wanted Two O’Clock |
| Symbol | ◷ ∲ ∳ | Office labels and contact details | Assuming all 58 behave the same way in every font |
| Emoji sequence | ⏱️ ⏲️ 🕰️ | Legal, medical and professional notes | Copying only part of one of the 3 multi-code-point sequences instead of the whole value |
A watch, alarm clock and stopwatch communicate different scheduling concepts. Clock-face emoji show approximate hours, not a live or localized time value.
| Cue | Best use | Information still needed |
|---|---|---|
| ⌚ | Time, wearable or appointment cue | Write the actual time and time zone. |
| ⏰ | Alarm, reminder or deadline | Name what happens when the reminder fires. |
| ⏱ / ⏲ | Elapsed duration or countdown | Provide the numeric duration and units. |
| 🕐 … 🕙 | Approximate clock hour | Do not use artwork as the only source for an exact appointment. |
Practical note: Schedules should use a locale-aware written time, date and zone. The symbol can aid scanning but cannot resolve daylight-saving or regional format differences.
Compare these choices with office symbols and number symbols. For a deeper explanation, read Technical and Math Symbols: Choosing the Correct Character. A faster route to the same point: are unicode mathematical symbols safe to use in equations?.
Tip: Keep the plain words next to the symbol. Text is what makes a design searchable and readable to someone using a screen reader.

Selecting an entry places its exact code points on your clipboard. Paste with Ctrl V, ⌘ V, or the Paste command on mobile.
Reach for Watch, and never let it replace a word that matters.
For office labels and contact details, choose among the 35 emoji or pictograph entries, then check the weight sits comfortably beside your type.
When creating legal, medical and professional notes, paste the complete entry — several of these are multi-code-point sequences that break if truncated.

You do not have to copy. Each code point below doubles as a keyboard code — decimal for a Windows alt code, hexadecimal for Word and macOS.
| Character | Name | Windows | Hex | HTML |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ⌚ | Watch | Alt 8986 | 231A | ⌚ |
| 🕑 | Two O’Clock | Not available | 1F551 | 🕑 |
| 🕖 | Seven O’Clock | Not available | 1F556 | 🕖 |
| ⏳ | Hourglass Not Done | Alt 9203 | 23F3 | ⏳ |
| 🕧 | Twelve-Thirty | Not available | 1F567 | 🕧 |
| 🕠 | Five-Thirty | Not available | 1F560 | 🕠 |
Two limits apply to alt codes: a physical keypad, and a ceiling at U+FFFF. 29 entries here sit above that ceiling. A further 3 are sequences, which no shortcut reproduces — copy those instead. Full per-platform instructions live in the keyboard guide.
06
Most of these live in one place: Miscellaneous Symbols and Pictographs holds 62% of them. The rest come from Supplemental Arrows-B and Miscellaneous Technical. 20 are plain text and follow your font.
The other 38 are emoji, so the system picks their colour, not you. Unicode files the emoji ones under Travel & Places and Symbols. Watch the 3 that use several characters at once.
Copy the whole thing, or it breaks apart. The newest here arrived in Emoji 1.0. Older phones show a blank box instead.
What travels is the character; what you see is whatever font the destination reaches for. That is why the same time symbol can look heavier on a phone than in a document.
07
Picking Watch when you wanted Two O’Clock.
Assuming all 58 behave the same way in every font.
Copying only part of one of the 3 multi-code-point sequences instead of the whole value.
Reaching for one of the 38 emoji entries where a text mark was needed, so the colour artwork clashes with the surrounding type.
08
U+2231 is Clockwise Integral; U+1F503 is Clockwise Vertical Arrows. Because the encoded identity differs, substituting one for the other can change what a reader or a piece of software understands.
⌚ is the hexadecimal form and ⌚ the decimal one; both render as ⌚. On a page that declares UTF-8 you can also just paste the character.
20 of the 58 are ordinary text characters. They take the colour and weight of the surrounding font, which suits documents, code and interface labels. The other 38 are emoji and arrive as colour artwork you cannot restyle.
3 entries here are sequences of more than one code point. If the destination does not support the sequence, or if the copy was truncated, the parts render individually. Copy the entry with the button rather than by selecting the characters.
Miscellaneous Symbols and Pictographs holds most of them — 30 characters; the rest come from Supplemental Arrows-B and Miscellaneous Technical. Older blocks are the safe ones; anything added recently needs testing first.
The newest entry on this page was introduced in Emoji 1.0. Devices that have not received a font update since then will show a blank rectangle instead. Test on a real older device before using a recent character where the meaning matters.
09
Professional documents need numerals in a form that survives conversion, and text free of hidden characters that a converter might trip over.
The Symbol Maker assembles any of these into a framed, copyable line. The Unicode tools hub compares all seven and says when each is the right choice.
10
All counts derive from the 58 values actually stored for this collection. Rather than curating names by hand, this page reads them from the Unicode 17.0 database, and takes emoji membership from the standard's own data files.
Try “heart”, “check”, “moon” or paste a symbol.
