Fonts draw the glyph
Unicode fixes the character, not the drawing. Each font draws it in its own way. A star can be rounder, sharper or heavier and still be the same star.
That is why the same copied text can look slightly different on another phone or in another app.

Platforms can switch presentation
Colour emoji add a second layer. Some characters have both a text form and an emoji form. A platform may pick the colourful one unless something asks for the plain one.
- Choose a text-style variant when available
- Change the destination font
- Use an image only when exact artwork is essential

Design for variation
If the exact look matters, use an image or a font you control. Unicode protects the meaning, not the pixels.

Fallback is doing the work
When the first font has no drawing for a character, the system borrows one from another font. The character is unchanged. The borrowed drawing came from a different typeface, so weight and spacing can jump mid-line.
This is why a symbol can look right in a paragraph and wrong in a heading on the same page. The two use different fonts.
